Justine Miner works to expand opportunity to the world’s most disadvantaged people by collaborating with Grantees and partners. Ms. Miner began her major philanthropic efforts in 2007, and then expanded her efforts in 2013 when she created The Miner Foundation which she leads as the Chairwoman of Board to effectively and sensitively “give back” to make this world a better place.
Justine Miner - Founder, Chairwoman
Justine is an award winning chef having formed and operated top-rated restaurant, RNM, in San Francisco, California. Justine is a graduate of the University of California (Davis) as a dual-major studying French and economics. Justine later graduated from top-ranked California Culinary Academy having interned at La Folie with renowned chef Roland Passot. In 2003 at just twenty nine (29) years of age, Justine opened her dream restaurant, RNM, in the Bay Area, which she named after her late father and co-founder of Oracle Software Company, Robert N. Miner. For her efforts, the San Francisco Chronicle awarded Justine with the honor of “Rising Star Chef” after just her first year in business. Later, after successfully operating RNM for several years, Justine left the kitchen and closed RNM’s doors choosing to turn her focus, talents and energy to philanthropic work. Justine’s efforts have been no less impactful in the philanthropic arena. In less than two years Justine directly enabled thousands of families in Malawi and Zimbabwe find security, stability, and the precious gift of fresh water. Ms. Miner was raised in San Francisco with her sister and brother. Recently, GAIA named The Miner Foundation "Global Citizen of the Year".
Kelly Lawson is an active and passionate officer and director of several foundations. Bringing 34 years of financial services industry knowhow and philanthropic experience, she focuses her efforts enhancing The Miner Foundation's charitable efforts, enterprises and grant work. As a Managing Director and Partner of The Presidio Group in San Francisco, California, Kelly left the firm in the fall of 2016 to focus on the next phase of her career and follow her dream of more philanthropic engagement. There she developed, implemented and managed investment portfolios for wealthy families, individuals and their foundations, offering multigenerational investment education and assisting with the navigation of their philanthropic initiatives since 2004. In 2014 she was recognized by an Francisco Magazine, who named her one of San Francisco’s Five Star Wealth Managers and was selected as one of the San Francisco Business Times’ Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business for 2015. She was also named to Barron’s List of 2015 Top Independent Financial Advisors in California. Kelly earned her B.S. Degree in finance and management from Indiana University. Kelly is enthusiastically involved with community and church. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and being outdoors surrounded by nature. Kelly was instrumental in creating and organizing The Miner Foundation and joined the Board in 2014.
Sonny Olsen is Chief Operations Officer for JMM Holdings. Sonny provides single family office services relating to JMM’s Principal’s financial capital, property management, day-to-day accounting and payroll activities, management of legal affairs, and family management services, which includes family governance, financial and investment education, philanthropy coordination, and succession planning. Sonny is a graduate of the University Of Iowa College Of Law where he began his nonprofit work, which included Interning as the Assistant to President Emeritus Willard Boyd of the Iowa Non-Profit Resource Center. Sonny began his legal career in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Provo, Utah where his primary focus was Estate Litigation and Succession Planning. Prior to joining JMM, Sonny was a founding partner in a regional full service law-firm based in Provo, Utah where he was recognized as a “Rising Star” and top rated attorney from 2011-present. Sonny also served by appointment as a key Manager of the build-out and execution of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Sonny was instrumental in creating and organizing The Miner Foundation and joined the Board in 2014.
Francesca “Cecca” Dobbs and Justine met in grade school while at a birthday party wearing the same outfit, they immediately became bonded and have been the best of friends ever since. Cecca is a native San Franciscan who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management from the University of San Francisco and an Associates in the Culinary Arts from The California Culinary Academy. Ms. Dobbs has held many positions in some of San Francisco’s top restaurants such as Café Kati and RNM. Currently Cecca is venturing out on her own to open The Barn, an organic grass fed burger restaurant on the coast in neighboring Half Moon Bay, CA. Cecca serves as a parent mentor for The Support for Families of Children with Disabilities and is an active volunteer at The Pomeroy Center. Both these places are very special to Cecca as her youngest son has autism. Cecca resides in San Francisco with her husband Reuben and sons Dylan and Brandon.
Mr. Burns is a shareholder with the firm’s Salt Lake City office. He is a member of the Litigation Section and Family Law Group. He is also a member of the Family Law, Litigation, and Appellate sections of the Utah State Bar. Mr. Burns has more than 10 years legal experience, including five years clerking for the Honorable William A. Thorne of the Utah Court of Appeals prior to entering private practice. His practice focuses on litigation, family law and appeals.
